A GUIDE TO FEEDING YOUR PET AGED 7 +

Your pet may still act young, but around the age of 7, dogs and cats begin to enter their ‘golden years’.

Just like older people, pets aged 7 years and older experience physical and behavioural changes putting them at greater risk from diseases such as:

  • Kidney Disease
  • Heart Disease
  • Obesity
  • Cancer
  • Urinary Tract Disease
  • Dental Disease

Dog BowlAlthough your pet may not appear different at the age of 7, his or her nutritional needs have changed enough that the feeding and exercise routines you’ve grown used to may no longer be ideal.

You can reduce the risk of health problems and help your pet aged 7+ live a longer better quality life with:

  • Regular veterinary care
  • The best nutrition for his or her changing needs

Pets need regular veterinary care to stay in the best of health. Regular preventative and diagnostic examinations can improve your pet’s chances of avoiding problems that are common in older animals.

Your regular veterinary visits should include a kidney screen.
All pets aged 7 + should be screened early for kidney disease – before signs of the illness appear.

The right nutrition also helps your pet-aged 7+ stay healthy. As pets age, their nutritional needs change. Due to reduced activity, most older animals require fewer calories. Lower levels of certain nutrients including sodium and phosphorus, can help your pet maintain healthy kidneys, heart and urinary system. Higher levels of antioxidants have also been clinically proven to help reduce the signs of ageing.

Ask your veterinarian or veterinary nurse about the right food for your pet.
